Nina Vos

PhD Student

The main focus of my research is understanding how growing up in urban environments shapes young adults’ well-being in cities. I study how social, environmental, and psychological factors interact during this developmental stage to influence later mental well-being outcomes.

My PhD project, supervised by Reinout Wiers, is conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Urban Mental Health (UMH) and the Municipality of Amsterdam. The Municipality has invested in this research to generate specific, evidence-based insights that can guide actions to make cities more supportive and enjoyable places for young people to live and grow up in. In my research, I will be combining longitudinal data on the psychosocial development of children in Amsterdam with municipal neighborhood data to explain well-being trajectories.

In addition to my PhD, I work as a researcher at the Municipality of Amsterdam, where I study the link between resident's well-being and their living environment.
